SAVANNAH, Ga. — In an unexpected twist during the first day of the early signing period, the Savannah area witnessed a surprise move by Georgia’s top-ranked player, Ladaiman Guyton. Initially not slated to sign, Guyton made a last-minute decision to do so.

In a conversation with , the 6-foot-3, 225-pound athlete explained that a reclassification mix-up was behind the unexpected signing.

Guyton, a standout edge rusher from Benedictine, confirmed his commitment to Texas Tech. As a five-star recruit, he had numerous offers to consider.

“The coaches at Texas Tech were thrilled when I signed,” Guyton shared. “There was no pressure on me; it was a decision I made because I felt confident about my choice and had seen all I needed to.”

Accompanying Guyton to Texas Tech is quarterback Stephen Cannon. The duo will continue their partnership in Lubbock, following Cannon’s verbal commitment during his junior year.

“I’ve always wanted to play for a good team,” Cannon said. “That’s why I came to BC. So to be able to do that again at the next level will be a lot of fun. It’ll be a challenge for sure.”

Region 1-AAAA defensive player of the year Kamron Cody heads to Clemson. He will play for Dabo Swinney.

“My mom was going to kick my butt if I went too far because I’m a mama’s boy,” Cody said. “It’s going to be a little challenging being far from home.”

Wide receiver Chris “Bubba” Frazier will play for Marcus Freeman at Notre Dame.

“It’s really a no-brainer,” Frazier said. “It’s a great football program, along with a very good school system.”

Safety Micah Williams chose Appalachian State.

“I come from nothing,” Williams said. “So to help my family out, help my mom out and my brothers out. It’s definitely a blessing.”

Another late addition to the Benedictine signing was Carlton Hall, who will head to Liberty University.

“I felt like Liberty was the team that really believed in me from the get go,” Hall said. “Even when I was hurt, they came out there, recorded me doing my rehab.”
