Martha Stewart offers candid opinions on the rise of Meghan Markle and Gwyneth Paltrow as lifestyle gurus.
Martha Stewart doesn’t need an elaborate title to make her mark.
In fact, her grandchildren, Jude Stewart, 14, and Truman Stewart, 13, have always referred to her by her first name.
“They’ve called me Martha from day one,” the 84-year-old revealed during the Nov. 30 episode of QVC+’s 50+ & Unfiltered podcast. “Even their friends know me as Martha. No one calls me Mrs. Stewart because I’m not a Mrs. Stewart.”
This informal approach stems from Martha’s daughter, Alexis Stewart, who became a mother to Jude and Truman through gestational surrogacy.
“My daughter calls me Martha,” Martha explained. “She’s always called me Martha.”
In fact, the domestic doyenne considers herself and Alexis—who she shares with ex-husband Andrew Stewart—to be more “friends” than mother-daughter.
“It’s better being a grandma,” Martha noted, explaining how she had somewhat of a fraught relationship with Alexis that led to their current dynamic. “Even now.”
She added of her daughter, “We’ve very different. I’m an extrovert, she’s not.”
