SAVANNAH, Ga. — On Thursday, the community marked the somber two-year anniversary of the tragic shooting that claimed the lives of Semaj Floyd, 16, and Omarion Whitfield, 20, at the intersection of Amaranth and Perth Street in 2023.

In connection with their deaths, authorities have arrested three individuals—Harold Roberson, Vaquez Coleman, and Joshua Reddick—charging them with felony murder. Each of the accused was reportedly out on bond at the time the shooting occurred, as stated by the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office.

The legal proceedings have faced setbacks, with jury selection for the trial in Chatham County initially scheduled for September 29, 2025. This process was first postponed to November 3, and has now been further delayed until June 2026.

In September, Tiffany Reed, an aunt of Floyd, expressed the families’ desire for closure, saying they are eager for the ordeal to conclude. In memory of Floyd, his family organized a celebration of life event in May, which would have marked his 18th birthday.

Floyd’s aunt Tiffany Reed told in September that the families were just ready for it to be over. His family also held a celebration of life ceremony on what would have been his 18th birthday in May.

His great-grandfather Christopher Floyd said that they don’t want to see the teen’s life be in vain.

“I feel that everyone else should benefit from his legacy of living,” Christopher told in May. “He was all about living. He was good to his family, friends and comrades.”

Floyd, who was also called “Bishop” and “Bubba,” would have graduated high school this school year.

“I never thought that he would have passed away so early. I thought we had more time. I really did,” Reed told News 3 in June.

Floyd’s mother, Brittany, shared photos of Floyd over the years with .

Reed told that she always feared gun violence would affect his life but never knew it would happen.

“We are going to always keep his name alive,” Reed said. “I don’t want everybody to feel sorry for just my situation. I want them to relate because it could be your little brother, it could be your nephew.”
