ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A man faces charges of two counts of premeditated attempted first-degree murder following a double shooting incident in St. Augustine.
On the night of Thursday, December 4, St. Johns County deputies were dispatched to a home on Lena Street after reports of a shooting. Two women sustained life-threatening injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, Michael Hankerson, 37, was identified as a person of interest and subsequently detained by police.
As detailed in the police report, Hankerson had been watching a movie with the victims inside the home when he unexpectedly “produced a handgun” and opened fire on them.
The report further indicates that one woman was hit in the shoulder, while the other, who reportedly had a relationship with Hankerson, endured “multiple gunshot wounds to her lower extremities.”
Hankerson was located an hour later, police say. According to the report, he had refused to speak with law enforcement. He is currently held in the St. Johns County Jail with no bond.
