Mika Zibanejad keeps climbing Rangers' record books

In his impressive 10th season with the New York Rangers, Mika Zibanejad is steadily climbing the ranks in the franchise’s record books. The talented Swede recently matched Ron Greschner’s mark for the seventh-most points in Rangers history, reaching a total of 610 points. This milestone was achieved after Zibanejad netted his 10th goal of the season, leading his team to a 4-2 victory over Ottawa on Thursday.

Zibanejad reflected on the team’s performance, particularly comparing it to their previous game against the Dallas Stars. “I think our last game at home might have been our best,” he remarked after the win on Thursday. “Overall, that’s the style of play we aspire to, especially on the road. We know the level we’re capable of achieving. While it won’t always be perfect or like the game against Dallas, the foundation and intent were evident. It might have gotten a bit sloppy in the third period, but the pressure was on both sides.”

After experiencing a less productive season last year, not taking into account the shortened 2020-21 campaign, Zibanejad has made a strong comeback. Under the guidance of head coach Mike Sullivan, he has started this season on a high note. Remarkably, he has already reached half of last season’s goal tally of 20, showcasing his resilience and skill.

Coming off his least productive season (not including the shortened 2020-21 campaign) since the 2017-18 season Zibanejad has rebounded with a quality start in his first season skating under head coach Mike Sullivan.

He already is halfway to his goal total of 20 from last season.

Zibanejad also leads the Rangers in power-play goals (six) and is ranked third in assists (11).

Carrying a five-game point streak (three goals, three assists) into Saturday’s game against the Avalanche, Zibanejad has posted nine points in his past eight games.

He is just two power-play goals away from tying Chris Kreider and Camille Henry for the franchise record (116).

Goalie Spencer Martin, who backed up Igor Shesterkin in the previous two games, signed a two-year deal with the Rangers last month.

Across five NHL seasons with the Avalanche, Canucks, Blue Jackets and Hurricanes, Martin has posted a 24-30-8 record with a 3.56 goals-against average and a .883 save percentage.

The 30-year-old opened the 2025-26 campaign with the CSKA Moskva of the Kontinental Hockey League.

Appearing in 14 games, Martin posted a 5-6-0 record, a 2.69 GAA and a .905 save percentage.

The Rangers were off Friday before they were set to compete in a back-to-back slate at Madison Square Garden this weekend.

After taking on the Avalanche in an afternoon matinee Saturday, the Blueshirts will square off with the Golden Knights the following night.
