Jules Robinson has candidly addressed the unusual backlash she faced over her choice of attire for the Melbourne Cup.

The 43-year-old star of Married At First Sight donned a pink and green striped dress by Pasduchas, which ended up being slightly snug for her frame.

Detractors left harsh remarks about her appearance, with Jules recounting to the Daily Mail that critics seemed to treat her outing as if she were gracing the Oscars.

‘I didn’t meticulously plan my outfit months in advance. It was sent to Melbourne, and I tried it on for the first time that day,’ she explains.

‘It’s just a dress. It’s just one day. I’m not committing any crimes or causing harm. People need to move on. Yes, I felt uncomfortable.’

‘It was too small and I just had to go, “You know what? F*** it. I’m going to dig deep, feel confident and have a good day.”‘

Jules Robinson, 43, has opened up on the bizarre wave of hate she received for her Melbourne Cup dress

‘It wasn’t right for me but it was just a dress, it was just a day. It’s just the Melbourne Cup, it’s not the bloody Oscars for God’s sake,’ she continues.

Jules went on to joke the dress was ‘the gift that keeps on giving’, as she revealed Pasduchas ended up selling out of all their pre-orders following the backlash.

Elsewhere in the interview, the mother-of-two spoke about how she handles intense scrutiny after finding fame on the Nine matchmaking series MAFS.

Jules met and fell in love with her husband, Cam Merchant, on the hit show, with the pair now sharing two sons – Oliver, five, and Carter, one.

‘Sometimes it’s a bit testing,’ she says of the hate comments, adding that she does ‘kinesiology to protect myself and my boundaries and who I am to keep the noise out’.

‘It’s not normal to have so many voices telling you what you look like or what you should wear, or how you’ve been or how you mother,’ she adds.

‘You really have to protect yourself and your emotions, to really stand in your lane of who I am, what I’m not and what I’m doing with myself, and be okay with that.

‘If you listen to exterior noises, it’s very easy to get swept up in that. I learned that the hard way which I think is a natural process through this.’

'It's just a dress. It's just a day. I'm not murdering anyone, I'm not hurting anyone. Get over it,' she says

‘Looking back now, I think I have a grip on it. I’m human; sometimes things cut through that wall that I’ve built,’ she continues.

Despite the ‘really rude’ comments she sometimes receives, Jules says she will always stand up for ‘women who are a size 14 plus’.

‘I’m wearing a dress not to look smaller, I’m wearing it because I love it. I’ve got boobs, I’ve got skin under my arms, I’m not a size 8 woman,’ she says.

‘We shouldn’t be ridiculed because our bodies don’t look a certain way in a particular dress.’

Jules adds that she feels ‘genuinely honoured that I have become someone women in Australia look to when it comes to body confidence and embracing who they are’.

‘If that is a conversation I am known for, I will never take that lightly because it matters, it can change lives, and it helps women feel more confident. If I can feel that way, so can they.

‘At the same time, I am a whole human being. I am a mum, a business owner, an entrepreneur, a creative and a partner.

‘I have so many passions and projects beyond that space. Body confidence will always be part of my voice, but it is not the only thing I bring to the table.’

‘I am proud of the impact I make there, and I am equally excited about everything else I am building,’ she says.

Jules and Cam, 41, got married in November 2019 after starring on season six of MAFS, which aired in early 2018.

She says she looks back fondly on her MAFS time, seeing it simply as the story of how she and her husband met.

‘To look back on that – at how we met and how naïve we were going into it – I mean, it’s amazing. It’s just how we met now,’ she adds.

‘I am an arts and crafts girl at heart… I love it. You feel so proud of yourself. It’s so professional. It can be used for so many different things.’

‘We don’t look at it as this big thing. It’s pretty remarkable, really, the chances of it working out when you look at the stats of MAFS. It’s lovely.’

The happy couple most recently celebrated the fifth birthday of their eldest child, Oliver, who they affectionately call Ollie.

Jules says she became a ‘cool mum’ on his big day as she put in the hard yards to plan him an unforgettable ‘dinosaurs and slime’ themed party.

The Figur founder used a Cricut, as she is currently collaborating with the company, to DIY signs, cups and gift bags for all the guests.

‘I was very proud of my accomplishments with the Cricut machine and making it all come together. Ollie just thought I was the coolest mum ever,’ she says.
