A 39-year-old man is set to appear in court after being apprehended for driving with an alcohol level almost six times the legal limit in the northern suburbs of Adelaide.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. when the man reportedly collided with a tree on Manuel Avenue in Blair Athol. Police and emergency medical personnel responded promptly to the scene.

According to witnesses, the driver managed to reverse his Toyota sedan after the crash and attempted to leave the scene. However, police intercepted him shortly afterward just down the street.

The driver of a red Holden Commodore mounted a footpath, rammed a police car and almost hit a Channel 9 camera man to avoid getting breath tested.
The man has now lost his licence for 12 months. (9news)

Fortunately, the incident resulted in no injuries to the driver or any pedestrians.

Upon conducting a breathalyzer test, officers discovered that the man from Kilburn had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.294, nearly six times the legal limit.

He was subsequently reported for drink driving, driving under the influence, driving while disqualified and driving without care.

The man has lost his licence for a year and will appear in court at a later date.

His car was towed from the scene and impounded for 28 days.
