Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman have been synonymous with Strictly Come Dancing for many years. Tess has been a fixture on the main show since its launch in 2004. Claudia began her journey with the program as the host of the spin-off, It Takes Two, before stepping up to co-host with Tess in 2014, following Bruce Forsyth’s departure.
For the past decade, these two have been the show’s backbone, drawing BBC audiences eager to see their dazzling outfits and charismatic presence alongside the celebrities’ weekly performances. However, in recent weeks, the duo announced this season would be their last, sending ripples through the television landscape. The burning question now is, ‘Who will step into Tess and Claudia’s roles?’
As the grand finale approaches on December 20, ballroom dancer Katie Murray, age 32, who has performed with professionals like Amy Dowden, shared her thoughts on the ideal candidates to take over the hosting duties.
In an exclusive conversation with Express.co.uk, she expressed, “For replacements, I believe it would be wise to choose someone with existing ties to the show, someone familiar and beloved by the audience.”
“Therefore, Zoe Ball, who was immensely popular on It Takes Two, or Janette Manrara, a former Strictly pro and host of It Takes Two, would be perfect choices,” she suggested.
“With all the scandals going on, they need someone who is almost safe and reliable and loved by the Strictly fan base.”
When asked how to maintain viewership when Tess and Claudia step down from the show and a new season starts, Katie said it’s key to recruit two hosts who can attract a wide audience of both young and mature viewers.
“It takes a while to adjust to one new presenter, let alone two, so making the right choice is crucial.”
Tess and Claudia’s final appearance will be during the Christmas celebrity special, which airs on December 25.
Strictly Come Dancing episodes are available to watch on BBC iPlayer, and the final airs on Saturday, December 20.
