On the latest episode of Saturday Night Live, a moment of tension arose during the Weekend Update segment when Colin Jost delivered a particularly grim joke concerning Jeffrey Epstein, leaving his co-host Michael Che visibly uncomfortable and the audience reacting with a mix of groans.

Jost’s quip came in light of recent developments where House Democrats released new photographs of Epstein’s infamous private island, Little St. James. As he introduced the topic, Jost remarked with a sardonic tone, “It’s not as nice as I remember.”

He then referenced an unsettling detail from the images, noting a room equipped solely with a dentist’s chair. Seizing the opportunity for a punchline, Jost commented, “Which seems very weird but keep in mind a lot of his girlfriends still had braces.” This remark seemed to push the boundaries, as Che’s expression hinted at discomfort and surprise.

Jost attempted to double down on the humor, suggesting, “Oh, you think the victims should have crooked teeth?” This only added to the awkwardness, with the camera capturing Che’s expression of disbelief as he uttered a simple, “What?” before the segment moved on to its next topic.

The new images provided a harrowing glimpse inside Epstein’s private lair in the US Virgin Islands where he would host high-profile visitors and young girls flown in on his private jet dubbed ‘Lolita Express.’

As well as the library and dental suite, the photos showed a steam room stacked with boxes of towels and linens, beside pillows and bathroom hygiene products.

The imagery gives viewers a tour of the island where Epstein allegedly carried out sex trafficking crimes.

Jost was also brought back in for a second time to portray the Defense Secretary as an aggressive alpha male defending recent strikes in the Caribbean in the show’s cold opening. 

Jost’s Hegseth entered the Pentagon press briefing area like a professional wrestler, with a ring announcer and loud music blaring before immediately berating reporters. 

‘First things first. Where are the fatties? You, out!’, the fictional Hegseth said to a singled out reporter.  

‘As you probably read in some gay newspaper we are now at war with Venezuela, all you nerds are like “wait but was there an official declaration of war”.

‘Yeah it’s right here, super finger Dane Cook’, Jost said while gesturing with his hand towards the media. 

‘If you’ve got questions for me, fine. Pretend I’m a random fishing boat and firing away’, he added. 

After taking one question over a controversial attack in the Caribbean on September 2 in which officials launched a second strike on two survivors, Jost fired back. 

‘That kind of cruel, heartless act has no place in Operation Kill Everybody. Second. I wasn’t in the room when it happened. 

‘Okay? I was so jacked up after the first strike I had to make an emergency call to my sponsor, I’m sorry, a guy in an Anonymous meeting.

The show also poked fun at Trump after he seemingly fell asleep inside the Oval Office and at a cabinet meeting

‘So, I don’t drink something that I like and I want but I can’t have, but I want it, and I need it and I want it right now. It’s booze.’

The joke refers to a string of negative reports that emerged before he was picked to head the Pentagon which accused him of binge drinking.  

Another reporter, played by Ashley Padilla, then asked Jost’s Hegseth about Arizona Senator Mark Kelly’s quote accusing him of being a ’12-year-old playing army’. 

An enraged Hegseth shot back: ‘Oh get a husband!’, Padilla’s character responded: ‘I’m trying.’

He later added: ‘Let’s just say: if I had a drink for every Venezuelan we’ve killed, I’d really like that number of drinks.’ 

The fictional Hegseth also went out to defend President Trump after he was recently pictured appearing to fall asleep inside the Oval Office and at a cabinet meeting. 

Unlike you beta cucks, he’s a high-energy alpha who trusts me and listens to me no matter what. Isn’t that right, Mr. President?’, he said.

The camera pans round to show Trump, played by James Austin Johnson, sleeping in a chair. 

In a flirty tone, Trump’s portrayal said: ‘Stop Mamdani, you can freeze my rent anytime’, a nod to Trump’s cozy meeting with the New York City mayor-elect. 

After a rude awakening, Trump said: ‘He’s a great guy. He’s just fog of war, right? Fog of war, it’s a thing you only say after doing war crime, right? You never hear a general go. 

‘Everything went according to plan in fog of war. It’s like when you go into the sauna at Equinox and suddenly you’re doing stuff you never did before. Fog of War. We love it. It’s a great new excuse. 

‘We love it. So I stand by Pete, and nothing can change my mind less. Of course, it could hurt me in any way, in which case, I’ll throw him under one of Mamdani’s free buses.’
