Matthew Lillard is taking Quentin Tarantino’s critique in stride, though he admits it wasn’t easy to hear. The actor, known for his roles in Scream and Scooby-Doo, addressed Tarantino’s remarks during an appearance at GalaxyCon in Columbus, Ohio. The acclaimed filmmaker had candidly expressed on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast that he isn’t fond of Lillard’s acting.

Sharing the news with his audience, Lillard recounted, “Quentin Tarantino this week said he didn’t like me as an actor,” prompting a chorus of boos from the crowd. Initially, Lillard shrugged it off, saying, “Eh, whatever. Who gives a sh*t.”

However, Lillard later acknowledged that the criticism struck a nerve more than he had initially let on. “It hurts your feelings. It fucking sucks,” he confessed. “And you wouldn’t say that to Tom Cruise. You wouldn’t say that to somebody who’s a top-line actor in Hollywood.”

But Lillard then admitted the honesty cut deeper than he first let on.

The moment, he added, was a reminder of the gap between the love he gets from fans at conventions and the attention he receives from the industry itself.

“I’m very popular in this room. I’m not very popular in Hollywood,” he said. “Two totally different microcosms, right? And so, you know, it’s humbling, and it hurts.”
