Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities apprehended 34-year-old Davion O’Quinn Brockington following an incident where he allegedly lifted a woman and forcefully dropped her headfirst onto the ground at St. Francis House. This arrest comes shortly after his release from state prison on December 3.

The altercation took place around 1 p.m. on December 6, prompting a response from a Gainesville Police Department officer to the shelter located at 413 S. Main Street. Brockington had reportedly arrived seeking food and other services meant for the homeless. However, after being informed by staff that these services were available only during specific hours, he allegedly seized a woman seated near the front desk and slammed her onto the concrete floor.

Following the attack, Brockington allegedly fled the scene, leaping into the bed of a truck halted at a nearby traffic light. When the truck’s driver exited to investigate the unexpected passenger, Brockington reportedly assaulted him. The driver had not been identified when Brockington was arrested, which means no charges have been filed regarding that alleged battery.

Shelter employees familiar with Brockington recognized him as a client and provided his identification details to law enforcement officials.

Brockington has been charged with battery. He has 17 felony convictions (two violent) and 33 misdemeanor convictions (four violent) and has served six state prison sentences, with his most recent release on December 3, 2025. Judge David Kreider set bail at $25,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
