Community unites as Piatt Co. village enters second day without running water

In a heartwarming display of solidarity, residents of Piatt County rallied together this past Sunday to support the Village of Bement, which found itself without running water for nearly two days.

Since early Saturday morning, Bement has been operating under a boil order due to a water main break that occurred around 1 a.m. This break severely impacted the village’s water pressure, leaving homes without water to even boil. The absence of tap water disrupted daily life, making simple tasks such as flushing toilets and taking showers nearly impossible.

In response to this crisis, community members, along with the Piatt County Emergency Management Agency, local police, and fire departments mobilized to distribute water at the Lion’s Club Community Center. The fire department also provided a tanker truck, allowing residents to fill buckets for essential uses like flushing toilets.
