STATESBORO, Ga. () — The Georgia Southern Eagles have enthusiastically accepted an invitation to participate in the Birmingham Bowl.
Set to clash with Appalachian State on Monday, December 29, at 2 p.m., this encounter serves as a thrilling rematch from their regular season showdown.
Previously, when these teams met on November 6, Georgia Southern emerged victorious with a narrow 25-23 win over Appalachian State.
Concluding their season with an even 6-6 record, the Eagles demonstrated resilience by securing three victories in their final four games.
A crucial win against Marshall in their season finale was essential for Georgia Southern to secure their fourth consecutive bowl appearance under the leadership of head coach Clay Helton.
Georgia Southern has not won a postseason game under Helton. In 2022, they fell to Buffalo, 23-21, in the Camellia Bowl. In 2023, they lost to Ohio University, 41-21, in the Myrtle Beach Bowl. Last season, they lost to Sam Houston, 31-26, in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
