EPL: Man United overcome early scare to beat Wolves 4-1

Manchester United demonstrated resilience at Molineux, managing to claw their way back from an early deficit to clinch a victory that propelled them to sixth place in the Premier League standings.

Their opponents, Wolves, were under the cloud of a fan-led protest against their Chinese owners but managed to break their lengthy goal drought of 540 minutes. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde took advantage of a fortuitous rebound, putting the hosts ahead.

United, however, were initially their own worst enemy, squandering several opportunities. One of the most notable was a missed chance from Bruno Fernandes, who failed to capitalize after Wolves’ goalkeeper, Andre, hesitated at a critical moment.

The match saw a turning point when Luke Shaw’s assertive tackle on Bellegarde initiated a swift counter-attack. This move enabled Diogo Dalot to set up Bryan Mbeumo for an easy finish, completing United’s comeback.

Momentum shifts after the break

Luke Shaw’s aggressive challenge on Bellegarde triggered a quick counter-attack that allowed Diogo Dalot to tee up Bryan Mbeumo for a simple tap-in.

The visitors grew in confidence, and Mason Mount extended the lead with a composed finish after expertly controlling a chipped pass from Fernandes.

United found themselves two goals ahead in an away league match for the first time since March.

Fernandes caps dominant second half

Fernandes added a late penalty, awarded after a VAR check for handball by Yerson Mosquera, to seal United’s biggest win of the season.

The result eased pressure on head coach Ruben Amorim, who watched on with minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and darts world champion Luke Littler in attendance.

Wolves’ crisis deepens

Molineux grew increasingly hostile as Wolves slid to an eighth consecutive defeat, matching a club record.

Fans directed chants at chairman Jeff Shi, and manager Rob Edwards’ decision to substitute striker Jorgen Strand Larsen was met with loud approval.

The mood did not improve, as Wolves remain bottom with just two points.
