A man is facing charges following an incident where he allegedly fired at a police officer in Chicago’s Morgan Park neighborhood early Sunday morning.
The shooting took place around 1:22 a.m. along the 11400 block of South Davol Avenue, according to local authorities.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a group involved in a conflict, including two men aged 35 and 18, as reported by the police.
As officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, a firearm discharged from one of the men, hitting both another individual and an officer’s protective vest.

In response, another officer fired back, unintentionally injuring the suspect and the victim, according to statements from the Chicago Police Department.
The 18-year-old victim was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.
The officer hit in the vest was taken to a hospital and was later discharged.
The 35-year-old suspect, identified by police as Darren Brewster of Chicago, was taken to Christ Hospital in fair condition. Brewster faces a count of attempted murder and home invasion among other charges.
Brewster is expected in court Tuesday for a detention hearing.
