Former Vice President Kamala Harris is eagerly anticipating the unveiling of her marble bust in the U.S. Capitol, choosing to focus on her legacy as a “historic figure” rather than contemplating the 2028 presidential race, according to an interview with the New York Times.

In a conversation with journalist Shane Goldmacher, the 61-year-old Harris, who previously ran for president, avoided discussing any potential future bids for the White House.

“It’s three years from now,” she emphasized during the interview conducted in Nashville, Tennessee, last month. “I mean, honestly,” she continued.

Harris further remarked, “I understand the attention on 2028 and all that. But a marble bust of me will be in Congress. I’m a historic figure, like any other vice president of the United States.”

The U.S. Senate has a tradition of displaying busts of former vice presidents. According to Senate rules, “marble busts of those who have been Vice Presidents of the United States shall be placed in the Senate wing of the Capitol from time to time,” with the Architect of the Capitol authorized to execute this resolution, subject to the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration’s advice and approval.

One of the busts is located in the vice president’s formal office as head of the Senate, twenty are placed in niches in the gallery walls of the Senate Chamber, and the remainder are in the second-floor corridors of the Senate wing adjacent to the chamber, according to the Architect of the Capitol’s office.
