In a startling incident captured by security cameras, a 10-year-old boy made a daring escape from an allegedly stolen SUV in Kenner, Louisiana. The events unfolded in a drama-filled sequence that has now caught the attention of local authorities and the public alike.

The prime suspect in this case, Mackenzie Switzer, 36, is no stranger to the law. Known as a drifter with a criminal record spanning from Florida to California, Switzer’s latest alleged crime has added another chapter to his lengthy rap sheet.

According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon. Switzer was seen pulling into the parking lot of a Dollar General in a Chevy Malibu, a vehicle reported stolen from New Orleans. It was there that he allegedly abandoned the Malibu, only to swiftly move on to a Nissan Rogue parked nearby.

Police Chief Keith Conley detailed the brazen crime, noting, “He shows up in the 200-block of Veterans at a retail outlet, abandons a stolen vehicle, jumps into a Nissan Rogue, takes off and it had a ten-year-old child in the car.” The swift turn of events left the young boy in a precarious situation, but the footage of his courageous leap from the moving vehicle has provided a key piece of evidence in unraveling the case.

This incident highlights not only the audacity of the suspect but also the quick thinking of a young boy whose bravery under pressure is commendable. The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together Switzer’s cross-country trail of alleged criminal activity.

But before he can leave the parking lot, the boy jumps out and runs into the store.

“The vehicle was left unattended except for the ten-year-old with the engine running and the vehicle was obviously unlocked because he was scene on video just opening the door and getting in the vehicle,” Conley said.

The boy’s cellphone was left behind in the Nissan; and helped police track the stolen SUV.

License plate readers then picked up the vehicle in 8600-block of Airline Drive in Metairie where investigators say Switzer broke into a car dealership and stole some key fobs.

“Our officers saw him walking the parking lot, trying the fobs, trying to see what vehicle matched up with that fob when he was confronted by the officer and detained,” Conley said.

Police arrested Switzer who now faces a list of charges including illegal possession of stolen things, carjacking and simple kidnapping.
