Actress Amanda Seyfried Stands Firm on Criticism of Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk

Following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, actress Amanda Seyfried took to Instagram to express her views, describing the event as both “disturbing and deplorable.” Despite acknowledging Kirk’s history of promoting what she considers hateful rhetoric, Seyfried remains unapologetic about her comments.

In her Instagram post, Seyfried emphasized her desire to promote meaningful dialogue rather than incite further conflict. “I don’t want to add fuel to a fire. I just want to provide clarity to something that’s been irresponsibly, though understandably, taken out of context. Isn’t spirited discourse what we should be striving for?” she remarked.

Seyfried elaborated on her perspective by highlighting the importance of recognizing human complexity. “We’re forgetting the nuance of humanity,” she stated. “I can be angered by misogyny and racist rhetoric while simultaneously finding Charlie Kirk’s murder deeply disturbing and deplorable. Such acts of violence are unacceptable. Our country is mourning too many senseless deaths from shootings. Can we at least agree on that?”

This week, Seyfried reiterated her stance during an interview with Who What Wear, part of her promotional tour for her latest project, The Testament of Ann Lee.

“I’m not fucking apologizing for that,” Seyfried said. “I mean, for fuck’s sake, I commented on one thing. I said something that was based on actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes. What I said was pretty damn factual, and I’m free to have an opinion, of course. Thank God for Instagram. I was able to give some clarity, and it was about getting my voice back because I felt like it had been stolen and recontextualized—which is what people do, of course.”

Charlie Kirk, 31, was gunned down while speaking at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University on September 10. He is survived by his wife Erika and two children. The alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson, reportedly decided to kill Kirk because he “had enough of his hatred.”
