In a recent development affecting consumers across Australia, two popular pedestal fans have been pulled from the shelves due to potential safety hazards. This recall involves items from two major retail chains, raising concerns among shoppers who purchased these products.

The Woolworths Group has announced the recall of the Contempo 45cm High Velocity Pedestal Fan, available through Big W, and the Adesso 45cm High Velocity Pedestal Fan, sold at Woolworths. Both products were available for purchase both in physical stores and online.

The Contempo fan was on sale across Big W outlets and their online store between September 1 and December 10 of this year. Meanwhile, the Adesso fan was available at Woolworths locations and through their online platform from September 9 to December 10.

Upon discovering the safety issue, the company acted swiftly to ensure consumer safety. “The product was immediately removed from sale once the issue was identified,” a representative from the company stated, emphasizing their commitment to resolving the matter promptly.

“The product was immediately removed from sale once the issue was identified,” the company said.

“Big W and Woolworths are recalling these products due to the potential for mechanical damage to the supply cord’s insulation during use of the fan, exposing users to live parts and the risk of serious injury or death from electric shock or electrocution.

“Consumers should immediately cease using the product and return it to their nearest Woolworths supermarket or Big W store for a full refund.

“No other products are affected by this recall. Woolworths Group takes product safety seriously and apologises for any inconvenience caused by this recall.

“Customers can ask staff in store, call the toll-free customer service numbers available or get in contact online for more information.”

Big W customers can call 1300 244 999 from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday AEDT or visit the company’s website.
