A prominent college football coach has landed in legal trouble just after his recent dismissal from the University of Michigan.

Former head football coach Sherrone Moore was taken into custody on December 10 and spent the night at Washtenaw County Jail, as revealed by court documents reviewed by the Associated Press.

The 39-year-old Moore is set to be arraigned on Thursday afternoon. However, the court records have yet to disclose the charges against him or details about his bond, according to the report.

This development follows the shocking announcement to Wolverines fans about Moore’s abrupt mid-season termination, prompted by an internal investigation conducted by the university.

“Sherrone Moore, head football coach at U-M, has been terminated for cause, effective immediately,” stated University of Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel in a statement to Oxygen. “An internal investigation provided credible evidence that Coach Moore was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct is a clear breach of University policy, and U-M strictly upholds a zero-tolerance stance on such behavior.”

Moore was arrested a couple miles south of Michigan Stadium, where days earlier he was on the sidelines overseeing M-U’s game against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

“The City of Saline Police Department assisted in locating and detaining former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore,” the Saline, Mich. Police Department said in a statement to ESPN. “Mr. Moore was turned over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department for investigation into potential charges.”

Oxygen has reached out to Pittsfield Police Department and the Saline Police Department for comment, but has not yet heard back.

Moore was promoted to head coach of the Wolverines in January 2024, following stints as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.

“Biff Poggi has been appointed head football coach in an interim capacity,” the university added in their Dec. 11 statement, “effective immediately.”
