Zooey Deschanel’s late-night appearance started serious chatter that she had work done to her face. The “New Girl” star appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” on December 9 to promote a new movie. She sported a black dress with sparse white polka dots and a short, puffed-out skirt, completing her look with matching black nylons and high heels. Fans were buzzing about her appearance, but it wasn’t because Deschanel was wearing yet another outfit that fell flat; her ensemble was actually rather adorable.
Zooey Deschanel has long been the subject of speculation regarding potential cosmetic enhancements, with discussions dating back to November 2019 when fans first suggested she might be using fillers or Botox. A curious theory even emerged linking her signature bangs to possible facial changes, as some believe the hairstyle conceals any alterations.
In July 2024, Deschanel walked the red carpet for her film “Harold and the Purple Crayon,” donning a form-fitting purple dress with a scooped neckline and a cinched waist, exuding her trademark style. Complementing the dress with matching purple nylons and flats, she kept her hair pulled back, with her iconic bangs framing her face. Photos from the event quickly made their way to Reddit, where fans initially admired her outfit. However, attention soon shifted to her appearance, with debates arising over whether Deschanel had undergone cosmetic procedures. “She looks very fillered to me,” commented one user, while another suggested a possible facelift over fillers. The conversation even touched on her bangs, with one fan humorously noting, “Bangs are the OG forehead fillers,” implying they serve as a natural disguise.
Just a month earlier, Deschanel had addressed her affinity for bangs during an interview at the Daytime Emmys. Speaking with People in June 2024, she expressed her preference for the hairstyle, saying, “I look better with them.” Deschanel explained that while she had experimented with other looks, she always returned to her bangs, a staple since her childhood.
Zooey Deschanel refuses to part with her bangs
Should she be opting for cosmetic procedures, maintaining her signature bangs might be a savvy way to subtly manage the narrative around her evolving appearance.
A month before that premiere, the “Yes Man” actor addressed her unwillingness to part with her bangs while attending the Daytime Emmys. “I look better with them,” she told People in June 2024. Deschanel said that she had previously experimented with different hairstyles. “I’ve definitely had periods in my life where I have grown them out. But I just look better with them I think,” she said, adding that her bangs had been a staple since she was a small child.
If she continues to have work done as fans suspect, then keeping the bangs to obfuscate signs of injections is probably a smart call.
