LEESBURG, Fla. – Authorities in Leesburg have issued a boil water advisory following a significant water main break on Thursday, as reported by the Florida Governmental Utility Authority (FGUA).

According to FGUA officials, the incident involved a 4-inch water main that ruptured at 11937 Layton Street, causing concerns over water safety.

The advisory affects the Western Shores System, impacting nearly 500 residents in the area. As a result, service was interrupted to facilitate necessary repairs.

“Repair efforts commenced this evening,” stated the FGUA release. “At this time, there is no estimated timeframe for when service will be fully restored.”

During the advisory period, FGUA recommends that all customers boil water intended for cooking or drinking for at least one minute at a rolling boil to eliminate any potential contaminants.

In addition, bottled water can be used as a replacement.

“The advisory will be lifted once repairs are complete, and water samples taken to an independent, Florida Department of Health-certified laboratory indicates that the water is safe to drink, typically in two to three days,” the release continues.

Customers with questions about the outage and advisory are asked to call FGUA Pasco Customer Service Officer at (877) 657-8889.
