In a recent incident investigated by Jacksonville police, a man was reportedly shot by his roommate while he was asleep in his bedroom.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local resident is on the mend following an incident where he was allegedly wounded by gunfire from his housemate, as confirmed by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. Richardson, a member of the Violent Crimes Unit, reported that authorities received a call regarding a shooting at around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Upon their arrival at the residence located on Sunland Drive, just north of Beach Boulevard, police discovered the victim suffering from injuries due to gunshots to his leg and foot.

The preliminary findings of the investigation, as shared by Sgt. Richardson, indicate that the victim was asleep when his roommate entered the room and shot him several times.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was later detained during a traffic stop after traveling into St. Johns County, Richardson said.

With the investigation still being in its early stages, JSO said it was unsure of the motivation behind the shooting.
