A somber gathering took place at the Eternity Funeral Home, where a community came together to honor the life of 24-year-old Cherrish Nunley. The chapel was filled with family and friends who shared memories and celebrated the young mother, daughter, and sister whose life was tragically ended.

In Jacksonville, Florida, those who knew Nunley gathered on a Thursday evening to pay tribute to her after she was shot to death outside a gym. The incident has left a void in the hearts of those she left behind.

Nunley’s life was taken last month in a shocking act of violence outside a fitness center on Sunbeam Road. Authorities have reported that her ex-boyfriend, Randy Campbell III, is accused of the crime. Campbell, who is also the father of Nunley’s son, allegedly shot her before fleeing the state.

“We miss her every day,” shared friends with First Coast News, reflecting the deep sorrow felt by those who cherished her.

The service was a time to remember Nunley for her roles as a devoted mother, a loving daughter, and a supportive sister, as attendees gathered to celebrate her life and mourn her untimely passing.

Justine Donaldson, Nunley’s sister, said she was very loving and had a really big heart. Everything about Nunley stood out, from her laugh to her style.

“Even her nails right now are cow print,” Donaldson said. “She loved cows and ducks.”

Donaldson’s best friend, Brooke DeLeon, remembered Nunley as someone who always put family first.

“She was a great mom,” DeLeon said. “She was a great aunt. She loved her people, she loved her sister. There isn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her family.”

Nunley leaves behind two children, a 1-year-old son and a 5-year-old daughter, who family members say are too young to fully understand what happened. DeLeon said she hopes that when they’re older, they will see the outpouring of support.

“This terrible thing happened to mommy,” she said, “but look at all the people that loved her, look at all the people that she affected.”

Loved ones say they are holding on to those memories while they push for accountability.

“The rest of the journey is still to go, and we will still get justice for her,” Donaldson said.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, detectives identified Campbell as the suspect and, working with the State Attorney’s Office, obtained a warrant for his arrest. A U.S. Marshals Task Force later tracked him to Dallas, Texas, where he was taken into custody. Authorities say he will be extradited back to Jacksonville to face charges.

Donaldson said she thinks about the moment Campbell will one day have to confront what he did to his son’s mother.

“You have to look at your only child and tell them, ‘I took your mother’s life.’ For what reason?’ You have to live with that,” she said.

Nunley is scheduled to be laid to rest Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery. Campbell remains in a Dallas jail while the extradition process moves forward.

A GoFundMe has been created to cover Nunley’s funeral service costs and to support her children.
