Vermilion Co. Increases Fees to Strengthen Animal Control Support: What You Need to Know

VERMILION COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — In a recent session on Tuesday, the Vermilion County Board decided to revise the fee structure for the Department of Animal Regulations.

This department plays a crucial role in providing vital services such as animal control, care, and ensuring public safety across Danville and Vermilion County. However, authorities have pointed out that the existing charges for services like kennel rentals, officer salaries—including overtime compensation—impoundment, and boarding for unclaimed animals fall short of covering the actual operational expenses.

Meanwhile, the levy for the Danville Public Library is anticipated to remain steady at $2.1 million, with no further requests for budget cuts.

Upon assessing the current rates, officials proposed several adjustments to better align with actual costs. The updated fees are expected to secure “effective service delivery and financial sustainability,” according to the animal control department.

The Vermilion County Board passed the resolution — which took effect immediately — to update the animal control rates. 24 board members voted in favor of the resolution.
