Earlier Report: Florida Seeks Capital Punishment for Alleged Police Officer’s Murder

EDGEWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — The family of a slain off-duty police officer, who was fatally shot in September at a Circle K gas station, has initiated legal action against the company, arguing that the incident could have been averted.

Surveillance footage captured the moment when Edgewater police officer David Jewell, aged 45, walked into the Ormond-by-the-Sea gas station, only to be shot multiple times by employee Eduardo Felipe Labrada Machado, 24, resulting in Jewell’s death.
