AUGUSTA, Ga. () – Excitement and anticipation filled the air as 41 students from the Richmond County School System showcased their spelling prowess in this year’s elementary and middle school spelling bee competitions. The event, held on Friday, concluded with the victors preparing to represent their schools at the upcoming regional spelling bee.

Rory O’Donnell, a talented fourth-grader from Blythe Elementary School, emerged as the champion in the elementary division by flawlessly spelling the word “emporium.” Her victory secured her a spot in the regional spelling bee slated for February 28, 2026, where she will proudly represent the Richmond County School System.

Following closely was Marleigh Sudduth, another fourth-grader, this time from Belair Elementary School, who achieved the runner-up position in the elementary competition.

Turning to the middle school category, Domani Hill, an eighth-grade student from Freedom Park K-8 School, claimed the top spot. His winning word, “omniscient,” was a testament to his spelling skills and determination.

Not far behind, Peter Bao, a sixth-grader from John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School, secured the second place in the middle school competition, rounding off a day of impressive performances by young spellers.

Both Domani and Peter will advance to the regional spelling bee.

Congratulations to all!
