The third season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives unfolded with a whirlwind of drama as reality TV personalities found themselves embroiled in intense conflict. Central to the chaos was Demi Engemann’s serious accusation against a member of the Vanderpump Villa cast, alleging sexual assault. However, her claims were met with skepticism by her fellow MomTok participants, who believed they had evidence suggesting otherwise.
Amidst the turmoil, the complexities of relationships were further highlighted through the tumultuous journey of ex-partners Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen. As they attempted to co-parent their young son, Ever, the situation took a difficult turn during the reunion episode. Fresh rumors regarding Dakota’s personal life surfaced, intensifying the challenges between the former couple.
Longtime viewers of the series would recognize the significance of Dakota’s rumored interactions with someone close to Taylor. Allegations that Dakota had been exchanging flirtatious messages and planning meetups with this family friend stirred emotions. For Taylor, these revelations felt like a betrayal, reigniting old wounds and trust issues with Dakota.
Dakota Was In The Hot Seat During The Reunion
Fans who watched Season 3 of the show will know that a major plot point for Dakota was his alleged relationship with a close family friend of his ex, Taylor Frankie Paul, the mother of his son, Ever. When it was revealed that Dakota may have been sending flirty texts with the woman and making plans to meet up, Taylor felt as though he had shattered the trust between them all over again.
During the reunion, Dakota was asked about this supposed relationship, and fans weren’t surprised when he appeared defensive about the subject. For his part, Dakota said that he didn’t even want to attend the reunion, but that he still felt pressure to do so.
What’s more, he added that he felt production had duped him, as he wasn’t aware that all of Taylor’s family would also be attending the reunion. He confessed to US Weekly that the surprise made him feel like he was going into “full fight or flight mode,” as he was so caught off guard:
That’s called ‘blindside, blindside, blindside, blindside.’ I didn’t even want that. I didn’t even want to go. I also had a cease and desist, so when you see me stuttering trying to explain stuff, my bad. I’ve never had one of those in my life. I’m petrified. I don’t know s***. I’m sitting here, scared to death to say anything.
Dakota Is Newly Sober
It does seem like Dakota is trying to put his best foot forward in this new chapter of life, wanting to be the best possible parent to Ever that he can be. Part of this plan is getting sober, something which he’s since been very open about.
Though some fans have since accused him of being on substances during the reunion, Dakota swears that isn’t the case. He explained that, while the reunion itself was chaotic, he remained proud of himself for getting through it while sober:
Obviously, the reunion thing was a s*** show. I think more whenever I see videos circulating of me claiming that I’m high or I relapsed. There’s very few things that I feel proud of when it comes to myself, and I think one of those is being Ever’s dad and my recovery.
“For me, I am proud of myself because I have stayed sober through some of the most hardest s*** I’ve ever been through in my entire life. Even in that situation or that setting. That is why it’s so hard on me. I am actually facing a lot of those situations and settings sober for the first time ever in my life,” he added.
