Why Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer split: ‘This was a long time coming’

Amy Schumer and her husband, Chris Fischer, are going their separate ways as their marriage has reportedly been strained by career demands.

A source disclosed to the Daily Mail that Schumer’s career skyrocketed after the release of “Trainwreck” in 2015, leading to a flurry of acting opportunities. However, she turned down many of these offers, the insider noted on Saturday.

The source further explained that following the birth of her son, Gene, in May 2019, Schumer chose to prioritize family over her career ambitions. This decision meant she couldn’t pursue her professional goals as vigorously as she had once intended.

“A decade after the success of ‘Trainwreck,’ Schumer is eager to reignite her film career and see if she can replicate that success,” the insider revealed.

The source added that, amidst her professional aspirations and responsibilities as a mother, Schumer’s focus shifted away from nurturing her marriage, contributing to the couple’s current situation.

“But that is the life she was chasing, and the life she has chosen to take into the new year. She’s realized you can’t have everything and the thing that suffered most was her marriage. Now she is trying to figure it all out one day at a time.”

The insider alleged that Schumer, 44, and Fischer’s split was “a long time coming” and that “she is equal amounts [of] happy and sad.”

Talking about the “I Feel Pretty” star’s plans to co-parent with the chef, 45, the insider continued, “She is telling the truth about looking forward to co-parenting Gene, but she is focusing on getting her life and career back in order for a very successful 2026.”

Also commenting on the comedian’s recent weight loss, the source claimed she wants to be involved in more projects.

Reps for Schumer weren’t immediately available to Page Six for comment.

On Friday, the “Snatched” star announced that she and Fischer were parting ways after seven years of marriage.

“Blah blah blah Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years. We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son,” she wrote via Instagram.

Ahead of the announcement, Schumer flaunted her weight loss via social media and later ditched her wedding ring in snaps.

She also responded to breakup rumors in a since-deleted video, referring to her slimmed-down figure and her ex’s autism diagnosis.

“Whatever ends up happening with me and Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism,” the “Kinda Pregnant” star said at the time.
