GROVETOWN, Ga. — Following a weather-induced delay, Grovetown’s highly anticipated Christmas Parade finally graced the streets this past Saturday.
Participants flooded Wrightsboro Rd. as vibrant floats, spirited dance troupes, local businesses, and city leaders entertained the crowd, starting their procession near Grovetown Middle School.
City officials noted that postponing the event proved beneficial, providing families with the chance to enjoy the festivities under more favorable conditions.
“There’s immense joy in witnessing families come together,” expressed Grovetown City Councilwoman Ceretta Smith. “It’s a wonderful family event where people can relax, celebrate, and simply enjoy themselves.”
“It’s a family event—people relaxing, celebrating, and having a good time.”
Grovetown Mayor Gary Jones said the decision to postpone had to be made in advance to ensure permits and road closures could remain in place.
“We had to make that decision ahead of time so we could notify DOT and continue working under the permit we already had approved,” said Jones.
While the delay helped create better conditions for those who attended, it also meant some parade participants were unable to take part.
“For the floats and bands that had to withdraw, it was sad,” said Elizabeth Maddox, who was this year’s Grand Marshal.
Despite that, families and businesses say the parade was still well worth the wait.
“My favorite part was the driving porta-potties,” said Grovetown resident Steven Seidel Jr.
“I’ve never seen anything like that before.”
Local business owner JP Holland of Holland Home Improvements said the event was a chance to connect with the community.
“We’re excited to be here to promote our business and see the smiles on kids’ faces today,” he said.
Neighbors say the mild weather made Saturday’s parade more enjoyable and helped keep the holiday spirit alive throughout the community.
