The world of entertainment mourns the loss of Béatrice Picard, a beloved actress renowned for her role as the voice of Marge Simpson in the Quebec version of “The Simpsons.” Béatrice passed away at the age of 96, with the Théâtre Duceppe sharing the sad news on social media on Tuesday, December 9th, following a heartfelt message from her family. As of now, the cause of her death has not been disclosed.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Béatrice, which occurred this morning, December 9th, at the age of 96,” the family stated. “Throughout her life, Béatrice gracefully balanced her dedication to her family with her passion for the performing arts and the causes she cherished. We felt it was only natural to share this news with her friends, her colleagues in the artistic community, and especially her audience, who she held in her thoughts until the very end.”

Béatrice Picard was a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada in Montréal and enjoyed a remarkable career spanning seven decades. Her talent shone through in more than 200 stage productions and over 60 television dramas, marking her as a pillar of the performing arts.

Her cinematic contributions included roles in films such as the comedy “My Aunt Aline” and the Oscar-nominated short film “Marguerite.” Yet, Béatrice’s voice became a staple in the hearts of many as she brought to life the French-Canadian version of Marge Simpson for an impressive 33 seasons, a role she held until her retirement in 2023. She also lent her voice to the character of Mama Coco in the French version of Disney’s animated hit, “Coco.”

However to many she will be remembered as the French-Canadian voice of the iconic character Marge Simpson – a role she held for 33 seasons until her retirement in 2023. The US version of the character is voiced by sitcom legend Julie Kavner. She also dubbed the French version of Mama Coco in the Disney hit animaton Coco.

In 2018, she published her autobiography With Age, We Can Say Everything. In it, she wrote of her philosophy for life: “Too often we deprive ourselves of small joys because we fear the future or the consequences and end up with the regret of broken dreams. That time was over for me. My philosophy was inspired by Felix Leclerc’s song: every day I gather a little happiness.”

Tributes flooded in for the star as the news became public. “A wonderful voice actress, may she rest in peace,” one fan wrote on Facebook.

“What a career. It’s rare to see someone remain relevant and loved for that long. True impact,” another added.

A third chimed in: “Quebec lost one of his great women!!!Goodbye Mrs. Picard, Quebec mourns you!”

Meanwhile a fourth penned: “Her voice touched millions, and her legacy will never fade. Thank you for everything, Béatrice.”
