During Monday’s episode of NewsNation’s “The Hill,” former Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services, Admiral Brett Giroir, addressed the alarming resurgence of measles, attributing the outbreak and resulting fatalities this year to insufficient vaccination. He urged the Trump administration, and particularly Secretary Kennedy, to strongly promote the measles vaccine for those eligible.
Giroir highlighted the gravity of the current situation, describing it as “the most severe measles outbreak in decades.” He pointed out that the cases and the three deaths recorded this year stem from inadequate vaccination coverage. Giroir emphasized the importance of parents consulting healthcare professionals to ensure their children are immunized, warning that neglecting this could lead to the tragic loss of many children to measles in the coming year.
Expressing dismay, Giroir remarked on the irony of the United States, a global leader in technology, potentially losing its status of having eliminated measles—a scenario he deemed both preventable and disgraceful. He urged immediate action to avert such a preventable loss.
In his closing remarks, Giroir reiterated the need for the Trump administration and Secretary Kennedy to unambiguously support measles vaccination. He assured that the vaccine is both safe and highly effective, contrasting it with the severe consequences of the disease itself.
