Trump admin could reclassify marijuana: Would that make it legal nationwide?

President Trump has once again brought the topic of marijuana reclassification to the forefront, declaring Monday that his administration is actively “considering” making changes to the drug’s current legal status. This statement aligns with comments he made earlier in August, suggesting that the administration was “looking at reclassification.”

These remarks from Trump arrive shortly after a report from The Washington Post indicated that he might be preparing to issue an executive order. This directive would instruct federal agencies to explore options for changing how marijuana is classified under the Controlled Substances Act.

The potential move has already met with criticism from multiple lawmakers, who have spoken out against the idea of reclassifying marijuana.
