Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, known for her outspoken stance against wealth disparity and the indulgences of the elite, finds herself in the spotlight for a different reason. Recent campaign finance reports have surfaced, revealing nearly $50,000 spent in Puerto Rico on luxurious accommodations, fine dining, and venue rentals associated with a notable concert.
According to Federal Election Commission filings for the period of July through September, Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign allocated over $15,000 to boutique hotels such as Hotel Palacio Provincial and Hotel El Convento in San Juan. These establishments are renowned for their colonial charm and high-end amenities.
Additionally, more than $10,000 was spent on catering and meals at top-tier restaurants, and several thousand dollars covered the cost of a venue at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico. This is the same arena where Ocasio-Cortez was spotted dancing in box seats during a Bad Bunny concert in August. This event coincided with her visit to the island, where she publicly criticized gentrification and the impact of affluent foreigners on local housing developments.
Her campaign has justified these expenses as essential for supporting local initiatives, events, personnel, and security needs. While political endeavors do require substantial resources, the optics of such spending are hard to ignore. This is particularly notable in light of Bad Bunny’s previous decision to cancel his U.S. tour in protest of ICE operations.
Socialism for you, first-class living for her.
The hypocrisy writes itself. pic.twitter.com/zW2ilAotRa

Another $10,000-plus went to catering and meals at high-end restaurants, while thousands more covered a venue at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico, the same arena where Ocasio-Cortez was filmed dancing in box seats at a Bad Bunny concert show in August. This came during a trip where the congresswoman publicly criticized gentrification on the island, visiting housing developments and decrying the influence of wealthy outsiders.
Her campaign defends the spending as necessary for supporting local causes, events, staff, and security. Fair enough — political work requires resources. But the optics are unavoidable. Especially when supporting Bad Bunny, whose outrage over ICE doing their job had led him to cancel his U.S. tour.
AOC had so much fun with her campaign money $50K. I respect my donors’ every dollar and pay my travel by using my own money.
Socialism for you, first-class living for her. The typical leftist hypocrisy!
