Courtney B. Vance celebrated a significant milestone with the unwavering support of his wife, Angela Bassett, and their twins, Bronwyn and Slater, as he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in California on December 16.

Before Courtney’s name was forever engraved in Hollywood’s legacy, his family took the spotlight, offering heartfelt tributes that captured his essence both professionally and personally.

Slater was the first to speak, emphasizing his father’s remarkable character and lifelong commitment to serving others. “Courtney B. Vance is, without a doubt, the most altruistic public servant I have ever met,” he expressed. “I’ve never seen anyone value people as my father does.”

He recounted a meaningful conversation with his dad, sharing the wisdom Courtney imparted: “You need to be like water, son, adaptable to everything and everyone you encounter, yet firm when necessary, holding your shape when it matters.”

Slater concluded his tribute by celebrating his father’s moment of recognition. “Today, it’s about the giver finally receiving, and I couldn’t be more proud to see a man who gives so much receive his due honors. Congratulations, Dad. I love you.”

Slater closed his remarks by turning the focus back onto his father. “Well, I know what time it is today. It’s time for the giver to receive, and I couldn’t be prouder to witness a man who asks for nothing receive everything. Congratulations, Dad. I love you.”

Bronwyn followed with a speech that centered on the steady presence Courtney maintained at home, even while balancing a demanding career. “My name is Bronwyn Vance, and I have the greatest honor of calling Courtney B. Vance my dad,” she began.

She reflected on how her father stayed connected no matter where work took him. “No matter how far away his work took him… my dad called me every single night, and every night he prayed with me,” she shared. From childhood memories of gentle mornings and comfort after bad dreams to watching him love Bassett with intention, Bronwyn painted a picture of a father who showed up consistently.

“My dad is the greatest man I know because he lives with love. He taught me to put others first, even when it’s inconvenient, to do things not for recognition, but because you care. He’s shown me the kind of love I hope to have one day, but most importantly, he’s been my dad.”

Angela Bassett also expressed her pride, praising Courtney’s dedication to his craft and the integrity he brings to every role.

“From Cory in Fences, and Hap in Lucky Guy on Broadway, to Hamburger Hill in Hunt for Red October, Uncle George in Lovecraft Country, C.O. Franklin in Genius Aretha, and yes, since this is the most wonderful time of the year, Reverend Biggs in The Preacher’s Wife. Courtney has built a body of work that endures. Audiences don’t just watch, they absorb. Today’s honor is deeply deserved. This star recognizes not only his artistry, but his integrity, his generosity, and his grace with which he moves through the world. I am endlessly proud of you. I love you, and I am grateful that the world now has a star that bears your name. Thank you.”
