The fashion world mourns the loss of Antony Price, the legendary designer who was instrumental in shaping the iconic looks of music legends such as Duran Duran, David Bowie, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and Roxy Music. Price passed away on Wednesday, December 17, at the age of 80. While the cause of his death remains undisclosed, his legacy in the fashion industry is indisputable. Just last month, he made a memorable public appearance at a high-profile fashion show, showcasing a special collaboration with Marco Capaldo of 16Arlington. Price was renowned for revolutionizing the suit, notably creating the pastel ensembles that Duran Duran wore in their iconic “Rio” music video.

Nick Rhodes, a member of Duran Duran, shared a heartfelt tribute to Price on the band’s Instagram page, celebrating his friend’s extraordinary talent. “I am deeply saddened to hear that my very dear friend Antony Price passed away yesterday,” Rhodes wrote, describing Price as a “visionary fashion designer with extraordinary technical skills.” He continued, “Nobody did glam better than Antony. For Duran Duran, he was an important collaborator from the very beginning, and we continued to work with him throughout the years.”

Rhodes praised Price’s unique and striking creations, lamenting that despite his brilliance, Price often did not receive the recognition he deserved from the fashion media. However, his impressive clientele and admiration from fellow designers underscored his genius. “He never failed to deliver,” Rhodes noted. “His swan song fashion show, just a few weeks ago, was as spectacular and relevant as the first one I ever saw. More than all of this, Antony was a loyal, kind, intelligent, and razor-witted friend. I’ll miss you, Tone…”

Holly Johnson, the iconic singer from Frankie Goes to Hollywood, also honored Price’s memory. Johnson shared a stage photo featuring one of Price’s designs, simply captioning it: “RIP Antony Price King of Glamour.”

Acclaimed milliner Phillip Treacy, who frequently collaborated with Antony, shared video footage of the pair working together alongside his tribute.

“Today, I lost more than a friend. I lost a true visionary. Antony Price was not just a designer but a king in the world of fashion. His brilliance and technical ability were unmatched, and it breaks my heart that the world of fashion didn’t recognize his genius in his lifetime as he deserved. I will forever cherish our moments together, his humour and his passion for life and craftsmanship. Thank you for everything, dearest Antony. Your legacy will live on in the hearts of those who truly understood you. Rest in peace my friend,” he penned.
