In a shocking turn of events in Clay County, Florida, a 62-year-old resident of Middleburg, Ruben Rodriguez, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder following a violent road rage incident. The altercation, which unfolded Wednesday evening, resulted in gunfire, leaving three teenagers injured.

The arrest report outlines the sequence of events, beginning with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office receiving several urgent calls about the shooting around 5:39 p.m. The situation developed on Blanding Boulevard, where the confrontation took a dangerous turn.

Authorities revealed that one of the victims, 18-year-old Evan Sherman, was struck in the thigh. He was promptly taken to HCA Middleburg for medical attention, where deputies later caught up with the ongoing investigations. Alongside Sherman, two more teens, identified as 17-year-old Wyatt Albritton and 18-year-old Jacob Dollinger, also sustained injuries in the incident.

As the community grapples with the aftermath, the arrest of Rodriguez underscores the severe consequences of road rage, and the case continues to unfold under the scrutiny of law enforcement.

The report says 18-year-old Evan Sherman, who was shot in the thigh, was being treated by hospital staff at HCA Middleburg when deputies arrived in the area. Two other teens were injured in the shooting: 17-year-old Wyatt Albritton and 18-year-old Jacob Dollinger, the report states.

According to CCSO, Rodriguez shot the three teens from his black Chevrolet pickup truck. Much of his arrest report is redacted, so details on what led up to the shooting are unknown. However, the report states that deputies found probable cause to arrest Rodriguez.

The report says a black and tan semi-automatic handgun was found in “plain view” between the driver’s seat and center console in Rodriguez’s truck. It further states that there were several times when he “could have removed himself from the situation by pulling off the roadway or contacting law enforcement.”

Rodriguez was arrested at 5:51 p.m. Wednesday, and then was taken to the Clay County Jail. He has been given a $750,009 bond.
