An Upstate resident has been taken into custody after reportedly posting anti-Semitic comments online and threatening a mass shooting, according to authorities in Pickens County, South Carolina.

Lucas Rousso, from Easley, found himself under arrest thanks to a joint effort involving the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, Easley Police Department, and the FBI’s Columbia Field Office.

The 30-year-old suspect made an appearance in federal court in Greenville on Wednesday. The charges stem from multiple social media posts he allegedly made over several months.

Law enforcement officials began investigating after receiving a tip earlier in the week, which led them to uncover a series of threatening activities online.

Rousso’s arrest is the result of a comprehensive investigation that started with disturbing remarks on his YouTube account. These comments had been growing increasingly concerning, alerting both viewers and authorities. Federal agents linked the threatening posts to Rousso by tracing his IP address and examining his electronic devices, confirming his identity as the source.

Rousso reportedly admitted to posting the comments during an interview with authorities.

Kevin Moore, FBI Special Agent in Charge of the Columbia Field Office, emphasized the seriousness of Rousso’s crimes. “Making threats online has consequences. When someone makes credible threats to harm others or carry out threats of extreme violence, they will be held accountable,” Moore said.

If convicted, Rousso could face a fine of $250,000 and a maximum prison sentence of five years.

A detention hearing is scheduled for Friday morning, where further legal proceedings will be discussed.
