An Indiana resident faces charges for allegedly taking the life of his 81-year-old father and attempting to murder his mother.
Authorities in Indianapolis were called to the residence of John and Olanna Pedigo late last week. Upon arrival, they discovered John Pedigo deceased and Olanna suffering from severe injuries, according to a report by WISH.
The case unfolded when Bryan Pedigo, the couple’s 54-year-old son, allegedly confessed to a friend that he had killed his father. Initially, police did not locate the Pedigos during their first visit, but upon returning, they found John Pedigo’s body wrapped in a rug and Olanna Pedigo exhibiting signs of physical assault.
The coroner’s report confirmed John Pedigo’s death resulted from homicide caused by blunt force trauma. Court documents revealed he had neck marks and candle wax on his face, as reported by WTHR. His pickup truck was also unaccounted for.
Initially, Olanna Pedigo could not recall the incident clearly and expressed skepticism about her son’s involvement. However, she later speculated to investigators, “I wonder if my son had anything to do with this,” as reported by WISH.
She was found with severe injuries, including bruising and a brain bleed.
Shelley Gindling, the Pedigos’ niece, said that her cousin had mental health issues and had been arrested and served time in prison several times, WTHR reported.
“This has shattered our family in ways that are just hard for me to even put into words,” she said. “There was simply no excuse for taking his father’s life.”
Bryan Pedigo was arraigned Wednesday on charges of murder, attempted murder, aggravated battery, and auto theft.
