Shocking Incident in Scott County: Two Arrested Following Hospitalization of 10-Week-Old Baby

SCOTT COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — Authorities have charged two individuals with child abuse following the hospitalization of a 10-week-old baby, as reported by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday, investigators were alerted by the Scott County Department of Social Services that the infant had suffered “significant injuries resulting from child abuse,” according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

After initial treatment at a local emergency department, the baby was transferred to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital in Knoxville for further care, the release detailed.

In response, investigators traveled to Knoxville to commence their investigation, conducting interviews with both the family and medical personnel involved.

“Through this, investigators were able to obtain substantial evidence leading to the execution of multiple search warrants and arrests of Emma Grace Ramey (19) and Riley Allen Holbrooke (23) both of Gate City, Virginia,” the release states.

Ramey and Holbrooke were both arrested and charged with child abuse and neglect and aggravated malicious wounding.
