After a punishing defeat at the hands of Anthony Joshua, Jake Paul found himself in the hospital with a double fractured jaw. The social media star-turned-boxer managed to endure six rounds against the former heavyweight champion in a bout held in Miami.

Joshua’s strength proved decisive as he knocked Paul down twice in the fifth round, followed by two more knockdowns in the sixth, bringing the lopsided contest to a close in the early hours of Saturday morning, GMT.

According to Paul’s team, spokesperson Bidarian mentioned that the recovery process for his injuries is projected to last between four to six weeks.

Despite spitting blood after being knocked out, Paul remained upbeat during his post-fight interview, saying, “I’m feeling good, that was fun, I love this sport.” He later shared an image of his x-ray on social media, confirming the dual fractures in his jaw.

Paul was spitting blood following the knockout but he said in his in-ring interview: ‘I’m feeling good, that was fun, I love this sport.’ He later posted a photo of his x-ray confirming a double fracture to his jaw.

He also posted a series of graphic images and videos on his Instagram account which appeared to show a shift in his jaw – with plenty of blood dripping down his face.

The former cruiserweight confirmed he would take a break from the sport but planned a shot at the cruiserweight world title.

‘I’m going to take a little break. I’ve been going hard for six years. I’ll take some time off. This is amazing,’ he said.

‘We will heal the broken jaw, come back and fight people my weight.’

Paul added: ‘Anthony Joshua is a great fighter, I got beat but that’s what this sport is about. I will come back and keep on winning.

‘I’ve already won in every single way of life. My family, my beautiful fiancé his sport has helped me so much in my life.

The former YouTuber insisted he was ‘not surprised’ to have survived six rounds.

I just got tired,’ insisted Paul, who regularly fell to the canvas during the fight.

‘It was a lot handling his weight. If I had better cardio I think I could have kept on fighting. I did my personal best.’

In any case, Paul has been handed an immediate 60-day suspension from boxing.

The Florida Athletic Commission, who sanctioned the fight, state in their rules that any boxer who is knocked out must be given at least a 60-day ban.

That can be extended if the knockout was thought to be particularly brutal.

Paul’s right-hand man Bidarian said: ‘We met with Netflix afterwards, he took a shower, he drove himself to the hospital.

‘A broken jaw is very common in sports, particularly in boxing or MMA and I think the recovery time from doctors we’ve already spoken to is four-six weeks.’

Paul is clearly keeping a light heart about his wounds. From his hopistal bed he joked on social media: ‘Double broken jaw. Give me Canelo in 10 days.’

Meanwhile, in the aftermath of his win, Joshua called out his British rival Tyson Fury to try and make a fight which fans have wanted for years.

‘If Tyson Fury is as serious as he thinks he is, and he wants to put down his Twitter fingers and put on some gloves and come and fight one of the realest fighters out there that will take on any challenge, step into the ring with me next if you’re a real bad boy.

‘Don’t do all that talking: “AJ this, AJ that.” Let’s see you in the ring and talk with your fists.’

The only issue is that Fury is officially retired. He hung up his gloves in January this year. Then again, he has come out of retirement on four occasions previously, and he has hinted at a return in 2026.

‘The king must return to his throne,’ he wrote on social media earlier this month.

‘There is a long and lonely road that only I can walk on, but after the long and hard battles awaits immortality!’
