Sakamoto Days Season 2 Reveals First Exciting ‘Super Teaser’ Trailer for Netflix

Although a release window for Sakamoto Days Season 2 has yet to be announced, the teaser trailer promised the new anime would be “coming soon,” making it appear likely that fans will see a return of the anime sometime in the coming year. Netflix has confirmed it will stream the anime exclusively.

The original ongoing Sakamoto Days manga series by Yuto Suzuki debuted in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in 2020, immediately cementing its place as the then-latest unexpected action-comedy sensation. At its outset, the series follows Shin Asakura, a clairvoyant hitman sent to hunt down the legendary assassin turned hardworking family man, Taro Sakamoto.

After taking a liking to Sakamoto’s slow-paced, conscientious lifestyle, Shin takes a job in his convenience store while aiming to protect the Sakamoto family at all costs. Soon enough, a whole host of criminals and assassins are working in Sakamoto’s store, while simultaneously fighting to protect the family from the crime lords looking to take them down — all while holding back to adhere to the “no killing” policy put in place by Taro’s wife, Aoi.

The Sakamoto Days anime series from TMS Entertainment premiered in January 2025 and garnered rave reviews from both critics and audiences. As of the time of writing, Sakamoto Day Season 1 holds an 84% approval rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes’ “Popcornmeter,” as averaged across more than 50 reviews. The series also holds a 7.5/10 score via the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), as averaged across more than 14,000 ratings. As of Netflix’s most recent engagement report, it is also the most-watched anime series globally for the year so far.

As much as fans might love Sakomoto Days in its current incarnation, the series would have been vastly different if it were up to voice star Tomokazu Sugita. During an interview ahead of the series’ release, Sugita revealed that he originally intended to audition for the role of Kashima, a villain who makes his debut in the manga’s second story arc.

Sugita recalled the conversation he had with his agency about the matter, explaining, “I was like, ‘Okay got it, then how about this other character?’ ‘No, Sugita, please audition for Sakamoto as well.’ ‘Okay, got it,’ and we had a surreal exchange.”
