On Saturday afternoon, a flight carrying the Minnesota Vikings had to make an unscheduled landing shortly after taking off from the Twin Cities, according to a statement from the team.
The aircraft encountered mechanical difficulties shortly after leaving Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport en route to Newark, New Jersey. This prompted the plane to return to its point of departure. The Vikings were on their way for a Sunday game against the New York Giants.
“After takeoff, the team plane faced mechanical problems necessitating a return to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport,” the NFL team explained in a release.
The statement added, “The team is set to board another aircraft shortly and is anticipated to arrive at Newark International Airport later this evening.”
Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rodgers reassured fans on social media, mentioning that the team is “ok,” although he did not share further specifics about the situation.
