An investigation is under way into a suspected security breach at two Adelaide prisons.

Authorities are currently investigating whether a falsified access pass was employed by an unauthorized individual to infiltrate secure sections of Yatala and the women’s prison. The situation has sparked concerns about potential lapses in security protocols within these high-security facilities.

According to information obtained by 9News, the person in question, who reportedly had restricted access and a possible criminal history, was discovered carrying what appears to be a tampered access pass. This discovery has led to apprehensions that the individual may have entered restricted areas in one or both of the prisons without proper supervision.

The South Australia Department for Correctional Services has acknowledged the incident, stating that an identification card was confiscated and subsequently suspended at the Yatala Labour Prison gatehouse. This action underscores the department’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of its security measures.

The department further emphasized that their facilities are equipped with rigorous access control procedures, which include thorough identification checks and biometric registration systems. These measures are designed to prevent unauthorized individuals from breaching secure areas and ensure the safety and security of the prison environment.

The department said the prisons have “stringent access control measures”, including identification checks and biometric registration.

“Any attempt to breach these stringent controls is treated very seriously,” a spokesperson said.
