Seven children from Illinois are facing criminal charges following an alleged attack on a mother and her young son last month.
According to FOX 32, these charges have been confirmed by the Chicago Police Department as of Saturday.
On November 17, the group of children, ranging in age from 10 to 13, reportedly inflicted significant injuries on a 33-year-old mother and her 9-year-old son. This incident occurred as they were returning home from the child’s school in South Deering, specifically on the 10600 block of South Bensley Avenue.
ABC 7 detailed that the children involved include three boys aged 10, a 10-year-old girl, an 11-year-old girl, a 12-year-old boy, and a 13-year-old girl. The alleged assault happened near Orville T. Bright Elementary School.
Following the incident, both the mother and her son were transported to Trinity Hospital in critical condition.
Corshawnda Hatter, the mother, told ABC 7 that “she’s never endured such pain.”
The young victim received recognition from the community for his courage in attempting to shield his mother during the assault, FOX 32 reported.
All the minors are charged with battery, causing bodily harm. They have all been released and referred to counseling services.
Police say this is an ongoing investigation.
A video of the incident went viral. Chicago rapper Lil Zay Osama, who had viewed the video, extended his support to the victims.
