‘The Wire’ star James Ransone dies at 46

According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, James Ransone, the actor celebrated for his performance in HBO’s “The Wire,” passed away on Friday in an apparent suicide. He was 46 years old.

Ransone made his debut on television in 2002, as noted by IMDb, and quickly garnered attention for his role as Ziggy Sobotka, a troubled dockworker, during the second season of the critically acclaimed series “The Wire” the following year.

His acting career spanned various television series, including notable appearances on “Law & Order,” “Burn Notice,” and “Hawaii Five-0.” Ransone also made his mark in the film industry, portraying Eddie Kaspbrak in the horror film “It: Chapter Two.”

Beyond these roles, Ransone was recognized for his performances in films like “Sinister,” “The Black Phone,” and the miniseries “Generation Kill.”

In 2016, during an interview with Interview Magazine, Ransone candidly discussed his battles with addiction, shedding light on the personal struggles he faced throughout his life.

He was born in Baltimore in 1979 and attended The School of the Visual Arts in New York City.

He is survived by his wife, Jamie McPhee, and their two children.
