- Wizkid’s 14-year-old son, Champz, says he successfully balances school and music.
- After his debut EP topped Apple Music Nigeria, the young rapper insists education comes first while he steadily builds his music career.
At just 14, Champz, the rising star and eldest son of Afrobeats icon Wizkid, has unveiled the secret to balancing his burgeoning music career with his educational commitments. In a recent Q&A session alongside his mother, Shola Ogudu, the young artist detailed his disciplined routine, underscoring that even successful musicians must complete their studies.
When asked about life post-release of his debut EP, *Champion’s Arrival*, Champz was clear about his priorities. “School is my main priority,” he stated. “During breaks, I head to the studio, and I use my free time to write. I’ve learned how to balance both school and my music career effectively.”
A Record-Breaking Debut
Beyond just exploring music, Boluwatife Balogun, as he is formally known, has made significant strides. His debut project achieved a historic milestone in November 2025, climbing to Number 1 on the Apple Music Nigeria Top Albums chart a mere five hours after release. This feat crowned him the youngest Nigerian artist to top the charts, surpassing even the early achievements of his famous father.
Despite the frequent comparisons with Wizkid, Champz remains grounded in his unique musical journey. In earlier interviews, he expressed feeling “no pressure” from these comparisons, as he is dedicated to carving out his individual sound—a fusion of Afro-swing and UK rap—rather than mirroring his father’s renowned style.
No Pressure, Just Passion
Despite the inevitable comparisons to his father, Champz has maintained a level-headed approach to his fame. In previous interviews, he noted that he feels “no pressure” because he is focused on his own sound—a blend of Afro-swing and UK rap—rather than trying to replicate Wizkid’s signature style.
His mother, Shola Ogudu, has been a vocal advocate for his education and mental well-being, often reminding critics that he is a child first. She expressed her pride during the Q&A, highlighting his discipline: “Champz is 14, balancing academics and his passion with serious discipline. This is Champz’s journey, his grind, and his future.”
With over a million streams recorded in the first 24 hours of his EP’s release, Champz is quickly becoming the face of the “Next Gen” of Afrobeats, all while making sure he doesn’t miss a beat in the classroom.
