Taylor Swift’s monumental Eras Tour not only shattered records and revitalized local economies but also left a profound impact on her global fanbase, known as Swifties, over its extensive 21-month duration. The tour paid homage to every significant phase of Swift’s career, spanning from the beloved “Fearless” to the newly introduced “The Tortured Poets Department,” added following the album’s release in April 2024. However, one significant chapter—Swift’s self-titled debut album, affectionately referred to by fans as Debut—was conspicuously absent from the performance lineup.

Released in October 2006, Swift’s country album introduced listeners to early hits like “Tim McGraw,” “Teardrops on My Guitar,” “Our Song,” and “Picture to Burn.” These tracks cemented the young artist’s place in the music industry at just 16 years old. Therefore, it came as a shock to her long-time followers when Swift elected to exclude the album from her Eras Tour setlist, save for the occasional surprise acoustic rendition.

For Taylor Swift, every choice is deliberate. From her elaborate stage costumes to cryptic social media posts, each element is thoughtfully curated. This meticulous approach led many fans to anticipate that she would clarify her decision to overlook her debut album in her Disney+ docuseries, The End of an Era, which just released its concluding two episodes.

Did Swift shed light on her setlist choices in Episodes 5 and 6? Here’s what we discovered.

Why wasn’t Taylor Swift’s debut album included in The Eras Tour?

Regrettably, Swift has not provided insight into her setlist decisions or her reasons for omitting Debut from a dedicated segment in the tour. Some fans theorize that her acoustic performances—where she played solo with her long-favored Grand Auditorium guitar crafted from koa wood by Taylor Guitars, alongside her piano—served as a nod to her beginnings as a solo artist. Yet, Swift remains silent on why these tracks were omitted.

However, Episode 6, titled “Remember This Moment,” did show Swift practicing a small part of “A Place in This World,” which she sang during the acoustic set on the last night of the Eras Tour in Vancouver. There was also some rare footage of Swift’s early days as an artist, including a clip of her singing “Our Song” a cappella, in Episode 5, titled “Marjorie.”

While Swift didn’t talk much about her setlist in the final two episodes, she did let fans in on what went on behind the scenes of the final shows of The Eras Tour (yes, it was her mom Andrea Swift’s idea to change the lyrics in “Long Live” from “it was the end of a decade” to “it was the end of an era” in the final show). She also dedicated most of Episode 5 to her supportive family, so make sure you grab some tissues!
