Chipotle has recently introduced a new menu aimed at being ‘GLP-1 friendly’, but the move has sparked mixed reactions among its audience. While some patrons welcomed the addition, others have criticized it, describing the initiative as ‘dystopian’.

Earlier this week, the fast-casual chain unveiled its inaugural ‘High Protein Menu’, a collection of dishes designed to cater to health-conscious customers. This new menu includes a variety of high-protein and high-fiber options, such as specially crafted protein cups and bowls.

One highlight from the menu is the High Protein Cup with Adobo Chicken. Priced at $3.50, this flavorful side dish offers four ounces of chicken, boasting 180 calories and a whopping 32 grams of protein.

In a statement regarding the new offerings, Chipotle explained, “With the rise of GLP-1s and a broader focus on macronutrients, Chipotle’s new High Protein Menu provides more ways for guests to obtain the protein they desire in portions that suit their needs, whether they’re seeking a lighter snack or a more filling meal.”

‘With the rise of GLP-1s and a broader focus on macronutrients, Chipotle’s new High Protein Menu offers more ways for guests to get the protein they want in the portions that work for them, whether that is a lighter bite or a more substantial build,’ a press release about the new items said.

But social media were not too pleased with the new choices geared towards those who are taking GLP-1’s like Ozempic and Mounjaro.

Fitness influencer Charlie Caruso took to TikTok this week to break down the new menu, and it sparked some serious outrage in his comments.

People seemed the most upset by the High Protein Cup, which is one of the items that Chipotle appears to be marketing around the most in this new release.

‘They really feeding us pup cups,’ one person joked.

Another chimed in, ‘Just cook chicken at home. It’s not hard.’

‘Lol it’s just chicken in a cup,’ someone else typed.

The news also circulated around X, where users continued to slam the new menu after it was posted by Wall Street Rollup.

‘Literally just chopped up grilled nuggets,’ one user penned.

Someone else lamented, ‘Late stage capitalism.’

‘Recession indicator,’ another quipped.

One netizen commented, ‘If you can’t bother to make this yourself you’re actually cooked.’

Others, however, thought it was a great idea, and said they would be trying the new dishes themselves.

‘I feel like this is a great idea for those who want to find an alternative to snacking,’ someone admitted.

A second agreed, ‘So people make fun of it. but more places should do this. Water and a chicken cup and you’re back in the game – healthy style.’

In addition to the chicken cups, the chain will also be serving up other items geared especially towards GLP-1 users, like the High Protein-Low Calorie Salad, which has 470 calories, 36g of protein and 10g of fiber, or the High Protein-High Fiber Bowl, which comes in with 46g protein, 14g fiber, and a total of 540 calories.

Other dishes include an Adobo Chicken Taco, which clocks 190 calories and 15g of protein, and Double High Protein Burrito with 79g of protein, 6g of fiber and 840 calories.

In the press release, the company explained that it added this menu due to the fact that a high-protein diet has become a priority for many Americans.

The chain cited the International Food Information Council’s 2025 Food & Health Survey (America), which showed that 70 percent of Americans’ are prioritizing protein.

According to the survey, ‘more than one-third have increased their intake in the past year’ as well.

Over the past few years, GLP-1 medications, which have historically been used to treat type 2 diabetes, have become extremely popularized as a weight-loss aid after they were approved by the FDA.

Ozempic contains a compound called semaglutide, which ‘mimics the GLP-1’ hormone, according to UCLA Health, a hormone that can work with your brain to suppress your appetite and make you feel fuller more quickly.

When it’s taken in a high dose, combined with diet and exercise, it can help people lose weight.

In Hollywood, it’s particularly taken off, with celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Sharon Osbourne and Rebel Wilson all having admitted to taking a weight loss drug.

Chipotle’s decision to release a high-protein menu comes just a few months after Starbucks introduced their protein lattes and cold foams to stores.

For every size Grande drink, which is the chain’s equivalent to a medium, customers can get up to 36 grams of protein.

The coffee chain offers protein powder as an add-in, or Starbucks’ Protein-Boosted Milk.
