In Gainesville, Florida, an incident unfolded yesterday involving Renee Vivian Lunan, a 27-year-old resident of Ocala, who found herself in custody. The arrest stems from allegations of her throwing liquid at a convenience store clerk and subsequently brandishing a firearm at another employee.

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office received a call at approximately 6:43 a.m. on December 15th, reporting an armed disturbance at the Circle K located on NW 39th Avenue. Responding to the scene, a deputy was briefed by two store employees about the unsettling events that had just transpired.

The employees recounted that two African American women had entered the store and proceeded to the bathroom, where they remained for about 11 minutes. One of these women was identified as Lunan. The first employee recognized her as someone affiliated with a third-party company that supplies food to the convenience store, noting prior interactions with Lunan that had been less than amicable.

Upon exiting the restroom, Lunan approached the counter intending to purchase a lighter. However, the employees declined the sale and requested that both women leave the premises. The refusal reportedly agitated the women, leading to Lunan hurling the lighter at one of the employees in a fit of frustration.

After the women came out of the bathroom, Lunan reportedly went to the counter to buy a lighter, but the employees said they would not sell her the lighter and told both women to leave the store. The employees said the women became “agitated,” and Lunan threw the lighter at the first employee.

Lunan reportedly went to the soda fountain machine and filled a cup, then took it to the self-checkout register to pay for it. The second employee said she blocked Lunan from paying for the drink, and Lunan threw all of the liquid in the cup on her, drenching her.

The two women went outside, and the second employee said she grabbed a broom and followed them. The first employee went toward Lunan’s vehicle to get the tag number, and Lunan took a bag from the vehicle and allegedly pulled out a handgun, “cocked” it, and pointed it at the first employee. The second employee said she dropped the broom when she saw Lunan take something from her car.

After Lunan allegedly pointed the gun, the two women left in a vehicle that was later identified as Lunan’s registered vehicle.

Lunan, whose address is listed as Ocala, reportedly told court officials she is a student at Santa Fe College. She has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony battery with a prior battery conviction. She has one misdemeanor conviction (violent) and is on pre-trial release for resisting an officer without violence following an October incident in which she refused to get out of her car after a traffic stop. Judge Meshon Rawls ordered her held without bail on the aggravated assault charge, pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold her without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing. Judge Rawls set bail at $50,000 on the battery charge.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
